Talk about greedy! Those bastards in Melbourne will have two race options with 2 different promoters. And here in Sydney we have NONE!

Mallachi from Spoke(n) has run his first cross event in Melbourne.

Not sure how it went yet, or when there wil be more, but it sounds promising

Hello crozzers! Or Crozzies. might have to come up with a better name

This is the first post of a blog covering the burgeoning Australian Cyclocross scene. As far as I know, there has been a race here and there in Wollongong, Melbourne, who knows where else, and I want to gather as much info as I can to make it easier for people to start a race, start racing and get this sport happening in Australia. I'm Sydney based, and have a few ideas for venues, and have come across a few keen beans. Let me know any news, links, races whatever that you think we'd be interested in.

I have international cyclocross racing experience! Me and Mick went to Vegas last year for the trade show and on the way back , rocked up to a coss race in Torrence (LA). There was this big park, kind of like a big bowl in the middle of suburbia, with a baseball field, basketball courts and a few bmx rails running around the outside. Apparently it was the scene of one of the earliest BMX tracks in California. Anyway, this race was part of the Socal cross series, one of a few series held over the winter months in ccalifornia, and there was heaps of grades, kids, masters, a few spectators, nice commentators, and a bit of demo gear. Mick and I borrowed a couple of Redline demo bikes , paid for a day license and entereed the c grade race. Fuck it was cool. Here s a cool slideshow of the race day.

Everone sprinted off from the gun, went around a corner and jumped off our bikes and started to run up this giant sand dune. I ran up it the first lap! Jumped on the bike at the top and started flying down the hill and tried the brakes for the first time. I slammed straight into the back of Mick and realised that the brakes don't actually work that good on cross bikes. Mick and I (racing for Chick Monkey) raced neck and neck for a couple of laps, then I let the little fella go on to claim 14th position. (I did school him at Moab).

Apart from this psycho dad yelling at his 13 and 16 year old daughter in the finishing chute for not trying, it was a blast. And I want to do it again.

I just built up a bike the same as the one i rode in LA, except mine is blue, and a little bit big for me. Available at Cheeky Monkey for $1800. Dave built up a Surly Crosscheck with slightly wier tyres, singlespeeed. And we did a couple of rides on dir roads and fireroads down at Pretty beach. We were both very very impressed, and I wish I lived somewhere there was more places to ride.

So what I propose to do is
1 Gather up info from everywhere on events, products, tips stories and post them here
2 Start up some casual cross rides in Sydney. Bit of road, bit of trail, maybe centennial park and sydney park
3 Do some racing wherever I can with whoever is keen. There were some shortcourse mtb dirt crits over summer at St Ives showgrounds that a bloke rode his cross bike in (did alright in b grade apparently). Maybe make a rip or two to melbourne to do some races.
4 start up some racing. Probably a courier race initially, then maybe some proper races somewhere??
